Black Mass refining: connect European feedstock with industrial processors

A refinery needs feedstock that fits its process. Battecycle connects documented European Black Mass offers with industrial procurement requirements, from lot data and acceptance criteria to an agreed commercial and delivery framework.

Match the lot to the receiving process

Black Mass is an intermediate battery-recycling material. Chemistry, metal content, moisture, origin and impurities determine its suitability for a specific processing plant. We coordinate sourcing and commercial introductions; physical treatment and refining take place at suitable processors with the permissions required for the material concerned.

Our role is to bring the supplier's documented material and the buyer's actual acceptance specification into the same transaction. The receiving company, facility and delivery route are confirmed for the individual project.

How a refining enquiry moves forward

Describe the lot

Provide chemistry, origin, certificate of analysis, volume, location and availability. Distinguish recurring supply from a one-off lot.

Confirm technical acceptance

Agree the sampling method, relevant quality limits, possible trial requirements and documentation with the intended processor.

Agree the transaction

Set the pricing formula, payable metal basis, deductions, treatment charges, delivery terms and payment milestones before shipment.

What hydrometallurgical refining involves

Hydrometallurgical processing recovers metals from pretreated battery materials through wet chemical processing and separation. Further purification can produce materials that meet agreed specifications. The process and outputs depend on the facility and feedstock. NMC, NCA and LFP lots therefore require separate assessments.

Recovery yield, purity and suitability for battery manufacturing are project-specific. Such commitments must be supported by the actual processor and tested material.

Feedstock data for an informed assessment

  • Source, battery chemistry and a clear distinction between production material and processed end-of-life batteries;
  • A lot-specific analysis covering lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and other process-relevant constituents;
  • Moisture and known copper, aluminium, iron, fluorine or other impurity levels;
  • Available particle-size and safety information, packaging, weight and the proposed calculation basis;
  • Documented material status and the proposed place of handover.

The receiving plant determines its required analytical scope. Existing records are useful for an initial discussion; missing data must be resolved before a binding offtake commitment.

European supply and international commercial contacts

European recyclers and battery manufacturers can submit lots for purchase or offtake assessment. Refiners and industrial raw-material teams can submit procurement specifications. Our contacts in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, India and Pakistan support buyer introductions and local commercial coordination.

Each shipment requires a lawful route for the specific material and receiving facility. Where a lot is hazardous waste, routing it through another European country does not make an export to a non-OECD destination permissible.

A clear commercial basis

The transaction may use confirmed assays and an agreed reference-price formula. Treatment charges, payable percentages, deductions, sampling, transport and payment terms are defined together. For brokerage, the fee is expressly agreed. An unsupported flat price per tonne is not a substitute for a complete lot assessment.

Start your enquiry

Send a lot analysis, quantity and location, or your refinery’s acceptance specification. We will use those facts to structure a focused supply or offtake enquiry.
